Bio Engineering
EGLE is the governmental agency that oversees the applications for shoreline protection in Northern Michigan. They work in conjunction with the Army Corp. of Engineers on projects involving the shoreline of a Great Lake.
EGLE has recently pushed for what is called bio engineering in consideration for shoreline applications. This mostly involves native plantings and a conscientious design to improve the interactions with wildlife and ecosystems.
Coir Logs are made with coconut fibers and are often implemented into a design to protect the erosion of the shoreline. They can vary in thickness and usually come in 10′ lengths. EGLE recognizes the use of these logs as bio engineering component.
Bio engineering can also use rip rap and native plantings. This can be a more permanent solution than the coir logs. Wilhelm Landscapes can apply for the permits you need for your shoreline project in Northern Michigan. It is helpful to have a company with the experience in working with the agencies that oversee the application.
You can rest assured that Wilhelm Landscapes will make the application process as smooth as possible. While every project has its own certain challenges, knowing what will work and what will pass the application process, will make the whole process work more smoothly.
